Poor Baby

Today I took Sepa in for his doctors appointment. I guess I didn't mention in the last post that the doctor was out delivering a baby so Sepa didn't get seen then. So we came back again. All went well - except poor Sepa had to get five shots. Gosh - I can hardly imagine how terrible that would be for him. But he was a trooper and recovered quickly. Gatta give him a big bowl of ice cream for being so good.

Lost It . . .

When people hear I have three kids ages four and under people often think I am crazy and that my life must be pure insanity. I actually do not think it is that bad. At least it has not kept me from wanting to add to our family in the near future. Well, this past Friday I think it all caught up with me.

I took the two youngest boys in for their regular check-ups with the pediatrician. I thought I was such a smart mommy to have scheduled their checkups together so that I wouldn't have to pay two co-payments. Well, not only did I still have to dish out two co-payments, I also lived my most embarrassing moment to date.

So we go into the office and I am trying to get Ikaika to get on the scale and get his height measured. He is not cooperating and Kekoa is trying to be a good big brother and encourage him. Sepa is screaming from time to time as the "strange-to-him" nurse tries to get his measurements. I am starting to feel like things are crazy with the three little ones, but still tried to look cool. The nurse plots their measurements on the growth cart to give me their percentiles. She then asks me how old Ikaika is again. So I tell her. Ikaika turned 18 months in December. Then she asks when his birthday is and I say June 12th. "2006?" "Yes." "Well that makes him two and a half, not 18 months." I then realized I was bringing in Ikaika for his 18 month check-up and Sepa for his year check up. How could I have thought Ikaika was 18 months? I was so embarassed and laughed thinking how it is not even physically possible for them to be 6 months apart. The nurse was done and left to get the doctor and I laughed so hard I just about cried. All that madness and I didn't even need to bring Ikaika in. Anyway. Maybe not that crazy sounding - I guess you had to have been there - or have been me.

It was Ikaika being off the charts that gave the nurse the idea that something wasn't right. I guess that is the only time Ikaika will be on the up end of the charts. Funny, crazy, but I promise I am a sane mother most of the time.

Happy Birthday Iosepa!!!

The final picture with the teacup. We are not using that thing again. Sepa cried the moment he saw it. He despises that thing. So we just sat him by it and Celeste entertained him with her iPhone enough to get him to stop crying. Poor baby.

The big celebration was Saturday, but we had to do a little something tonight. So I made pizza and an oatmeal cake. Three of my siblings came over (as well as Celeste's roommates) and we enjoyed the evening together. I had a great day giving Sepa lots of kisses and singing "Happy Birthday" over and over again. He would bob up and down each time. So cute. I just love Sepa and all my boys so much!

Here's a picture from the birthday cake and song.

And here he is a year ago. . .

Birthday Bash

We decided to have Sepa's birthday party before his actual birthday because my mom was coming into town for the three-day weekend. It was a wonderful party. We had delicious food, great company and a cute little one at the center of the celebration. This first birthday was a little smaller and we only invited a few people (as opposed to the hundred plus that came to Kekoa's party - no joke), but it was still just as fun.

While making preparations I thought about how much I wanted to really celebrate the birth of Sepa. I thought about this last year of having him as a part of our family. He is so loved and is such an important part of our family. We would not be complete without him. His personality is that of a true charmer as he melts hearts daily with his smile and actions. I love that little boy.

When I found out I was having a third boy a year and a half ago I was a little sad to not have my little girl. But I soon fell in love with him even before he was born. And now a year later, there is nothing nor no one in heaven nor on earth I'd trade my little Sepa for. He is mine and I love him.
I have many dear friends who read my blog who either recently had a baby or will soon. I am so excited for them to "get to know" their new additions and to fall in love, so to speak, with them as I have mine. Children truly are a gift from the Lord.

Return of the Superheroes

Today the boys pulled out the costume bin to transform into Batman and Superman. It has been a while since they've put their costumes on and I was happy to help them get dressed. I got them both geared up and they stood facing each other smiling. The dialogue went like this.

Ikaika: Hi Batman.
Kekoa: Hi Superman.
Ikaika: What are you doing?
Kekoa: I'm doing good.

I have often asked someone how they are doing only to get a report of what they are doing. This opposite example got me thinking about Koa. He really is such a good boy. Amidst the craziness and moodiness of childhood with him seeking to test boundaries and limits, I see so much good in him. He is such a good older brother caring for his brothers (Sepa especially) with such sweetness. He is always watching as Sepa learns to come down our stairs. He'll sing, "Feet first, Sepa" as he makes sure he reaches the bottom safely. Of course he wants to grow up to be Batman one day, but he also want to grow up and be a daddy just like his Daddy. And his prayers always include us being a "whole" family and listening to mommy and daddy. I often dread the time when our little bubble will break as Koa goes to school and begins to have outside influences that may not always be positive. But I know he will be okay. Why? Because I know he loves me, knows that I love him and has a good heart. I know Koa will set a good example for his brothers in doing good throughout his life. I love my Kekoa.

Get Ready to Party

Here's the shot I took to get together a birthday invitation for my baby who is turning one is just a week (and one day). I love the eyes. . . I love the child.

Waiting for Daddy

To be completely honest, sometimes the last few minutes before Kyle comes home from work really tests my patience. The boys are usually running after each other and I am trying to get dinner together. So for a little peace and distraction, I'll ask the boys to go look out the window to see if "daddy's home." Today they decided to step up on our living room window sill (It's only about two feet high) and watch for Daddy. It was too cute and I thought it would make a great picture. I like the way they turned out.

thought

Growing up, one of my favorite movies was Anne of Green Gables. I always thought it would be so fun to have my own "bosom friend." (You might have to watch the movie to appreciate that one). It would be someone you share your every emotion of life, someone who sees your good and your bad. I always think of a bosom friend as that one person you'd do anything with - go to your favorite restaurant together, sit and do nothing and everything in between. And though there are a lot of good friends in my life, I have decided I have had my bosom for quite sometime. It has been almost a new realization for me because for the longest time I thought my bosom friend needed to be one of my girl-friends, to hang out with while our husbands are at work. But in spending the last couple weeks with Kyle everyday I realize more and more how much I love him and am grateful for the friendship we have together. I can honestly say that I could be with him 24/7 and never tire of his company. I am sad that the new semester has begun- we will lose him to work and 12 credit hours of his classes up at the U. But I am just grateful that at the end of the day, I'll have my best friend right next to me.

Choose the Right

With it being the first Sunday of the year, Kekoa moved into a new Primary class (Ikaika is still avoiding nursery like the plague. . . ). It was so cute when after church he came running up to me to show me his new CTR ring. He was so excited to have a ring in the shape of a saver (aka - a shield). He tried his best to hold on to it, but he dropped it a couple times in the van on our way home. I rescued it the first time without too much trouble, but the second loss really brought on the tears. Kekoa saw it fall down the side of the seat. In great despair he cried, "I lost my CTR ring. Now I will never know how to choose the right." I thought such drama was reserved only for teenage girls. But that is my Kekoa. Luckily, Super Mommy was there to find it, save the day, and bring peace yet again to her troubled child. Memories of our first Sunday of '09. (smile)

PS. Just for the record I am loving our new 9am church schedule. I do not even mind one bit that I'll have a 7:30 meeting once a month (oh, anyone up for babysitting at that hour? ha ha).

Happy New Year

Last year one of my New Year's Endeavors was to do this family blog. And I am so glad I did. I realize more and more how fleeting the time is, especially with little ones. At least in this way I will have record of the times we had together throughout the year. I look forward to continuing this form of a family journal for years to come. Happy New Year to Everyone : )
